So why is Instagram so important for marketers?
Bring your brand to your audience- where they document their lives, one tiny square photo at a time.
Well, let’s look at the data. Last year mobile media consumption surpassed online for the first time with more than 100 million daily active users, 1.6 billion daily likes, and 20 billion shared photos. And if you’re looking to target millennials, the numbers are even better: With 42% penetration of millennial smartphone users, they spend more than an astounding 439 minutes per month on the platform, according to a report by Google.
With all of the social media platforms placing such an emphasis on photo sharing it is no wonder Instagram grew in popularity so quickly — it was the fastest social media network to hit 100 million monthly active users! With 8500 likes and 1000 comments a second, it is obvious that this social sharing network can be very influential. When Facebook purchased the photo sharing app in 2012, founder Mark Zuckerberg said, “Providing the best photo-sharing experience is one reason why so many people love Facebook, and we knew it would be worth bringing these two companies together.”
Many brands and retailers have already embraced Instagram for its photo sharing capabilities, which allow them to reach out to customers and clients in a way that is both visually pleasing and engaging. This may be one of the reasons why this photo sharing social network is seen as the best media acquisition of the last five years.
Instagram has seen the fastest growth, most engagement and highest conversion from browser to shopper. Even though Instagram was recently acquired by Facebook, and has 1/10th the audience, Instagram has 15x the engagement of Facebook.

Whether you’ve been on the platform since its inception or are thinking about dipping your toes in, brands need to utilize Instagram if they truly want to reach and resonate with their audience.
As the old saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words, and what better way to tell your story than a thousand words at a time.
